Looking Sharp in Their Uniforms

“Clothing make the man” or woman the old adage goes. I think this is true when it comes to uniforms. What conjures up more respect for our Country than military men and women in uniform? How do you know it’s the UPS man? By the brown uniform. What about the postal delivery people in their handsome blues? Distinguished and distinguishable. How do you know who the store workers are or restaurant people? By their uniforms. Uniforms make things uniform, easy to decipher.
I love to take pictures of people in uniform when I travel, from door men, to restaurant workers, to boat captains. Uniforms are different around the world. When I was in Paris last year my favorite photo was of waiters in black and white striped shirts and berets looking very much the part of old time sailors.
When my brother walks in from home leave, my eyes well with tears at the sight of him in his Air Force uniform. Pride and conviction are present. I love to visit military installations and see the men and women in their uniform whether they be in fatigue or dress uniforms. I even like to see our local letter carrier trudging up the street in their postal uniforms, looking smart and official.
Clothes don’t necessarily make the man or women but they sure do add to the ambiance of the job; the pride and belonging. You know your letter carrier from your UPS guy and that’s a good thing. By their uniforms you shall know them.
